Acetone in the urine of a child. Why is there a smell of acetone from the mouth in children
It doesn’t matter if acetone is found in the child’s urine or if it smells from the mouth – all this is called acetone syndrome. As a rule, the condition occurs in childhood. Usually people call it “acetone in children”, to simplify the concept. If the mother was told that the child in the urine had acetone or she felt a corresponding smell from her mouth, this does not mean that the child was poisoned or got to acetone. This experience is often the case with mothers of young children, because they are not always able to keep track of. In fact, the causes are in the internal processes of the body.
Acetonemic syndrome in children
This diagnosis means a list of symptoms that causes an increased concentration of ketone bodies in the blood. There are several theories why these bodies can increase in the blood: a drop in glucose or a violation of the regulation of glucose metabolism. But this does not mean that deterioration immediately sets in, it only occurs with provocative factors. Acetonemic syndrome can be caused by a violation of the diet, for example, if the child has large breaks between meals. Also, acetonemic syndrome can develop against a background of somatic, infectious or endocrine diseases, occurs in central nervous system tumors.
